As part of the group exhibition “NéoPaléo”, the designer and curator duo BehaghelFoiny presents some fifteen contemporary design practices, positioning them in contrast to the traditional history of techniques—which is typically viewed as a gradual evolution from manual labor toward the use of increasingly sophisticated tools and machines. Instead, “NéoPaléo” presents a panorama of designers’ approaches that engage directly with materials and fully reintegrate the spontaneity of the hand into the process of shaping them, while remaining rooted in today’s material and technological environment. Within “NéoPaléo”, diverse approaches converge, where gestures draw simultaneously on ancestral savoir-faire and digital processes, as well as on manufactured elements and those derived from living organisms. BehaghelFoiny brings these practices together in an installation conceived as a time capsule, where chrome surfaces are juxtaposed with blocks of mycelium from the visual signage created in collaboration with bio-designer Alec Vivier Reynaud.
